Why does your PS5 controller drift, and why do Hall effect sticks get rid of it for good?
Stick drift happens because the original DualSense sticks use potentiometers: mechanical components that detect position through direct physical contact. With use, that contact wears down and the controller starts registering movement even when you aren’t touching the stick.
Hall effect sticks work in a completely different way: a small neodymium magnet and a sensor detect position using magnetic fields, with no moving parts touching. No friction, no wear, no drift.
The latest generation also includes TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistance) technology: greater precision, lower battery consumption and the same anti-drift promise. At Tigernicks we install Hall effect and TMR modules depending on availability, always using certified, latest-generation components.
Hall effect and TMR technology: why it’s different from the original sticks
| Feature | Original ALPS stick | Hall effect/TMR stick |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Mechanical potentiometer | Contactless magnetic sensor |
| Lifespan | 500K – 2M cycles | 5 – 50M cycles |
| Onset of stick drift | 6 – 18 months of heavy use | Practically never |
| Precision over time | Gradually degrades | Stays consistent |
| Maintenance | Cleaning every 6-12 months | Minimal or none |
| Friction wear | Yes, unavoidable | None |
When do you need this service?
If you recognise two or more of these symptoms in your controller, stick drift is already affecting your gaming:
Phantom movement
Your character or camera moves on its own without you touching the stick
Inaccurate aiming
The stick doesn’t return to the exact centre and your aim drifts off by itself
Uneven deadzone
Jerky or inconsistent movement in precision games
Stick drift that keeps coming back
You’ve already cleaned or calibrated the controller and the problem returns
Yes, a drift-free PS5 controller exists, and it costs €30
Lots of players search for a PS5 controller without stick drift as if it were a product Sony sells. There is no standard DualSense with Hall effect sticks: every official model (including the DualSense Edge) uses traditional potentiometers that end up developing drift. The only real way to get a PS5 controller without stick drift is to fit PS5 Hall effect sticks or TMR sticks to your own, which is exactly what we do at Tigernicks from €30.
Want to replace your PS5 sticks? Here’s how it works
Replacing PS5 sticks isn’t like swapping a part in a PC. It means desoldering from the DualSense mainboard, handling delicate ribbon cables and calibrating with technical software. One mistake can permanently kill the controller. At Tigernicks we do this PS5 stick replacement with a temperature-controlled soldering station, tools made specifically for the DualSense and technicians with hundreds of repairs behind them.
What your €30 covers: the full process
Controller assessment on arrivalFull diagnosis of your DualSense’s condition. If we spot other problems (buttons, triggers, battery), we’ll let you know with a quote before going ahead. No surprises.
Professional disassembly and desolderingWe open it with DualSense-specific tools, safely disconnect the battery and remove the original modules with a temperature-controlled soldering station.
Installation of 2 Hall effect sticksPrecise soldering of certified Hall effect / TMR modules. Both sticks, not just the faulty one, because the second usually wears out soon after.
Technical calibration + in-game testing (1 hour)Calibration with specialist software, deadzone and sensitivity checks, and real in-game testing for at least 30 minutes before we hand your controller back.
Handed back with a 3-month warrantySame day if you’re in Madrid. If you post it to us, we repair it and send it back to you. Warranty included in writing: if the stick drift comes back, we’ll check it at no cost.
Is it worth it compared with a new controller or the DualSense Edge?
Vs a new controller (€65-70)
For €30 you get rid of stick drift for good on the controller you already own. A new DualSense has traditional sticks and will drift within 12-18 months.
Vs DualSense Edge (€200)
The Edge has replaceable sticks, but they’re still traditional ones, so drift appears just the same. Hall effect sticks solve the problem the Edge doesn’t.
Vs cleaning with spray
Spray is a temporary patch. It removes dirt but not the wear on the potentiometer. The drift is back within weeks.
Vs fitting them yourself
It needs precision soldering on the PCB. One mistake can permanently kill the controller. The full service costs €30, which is less than the risk.
The installation requires desoldering and soldering points on the DualSense mainboard, calibration with technical software and handling ribbon cables that break easily. Without a temperature-controlled soldering station and prior experience, the risk of ruining the controller is high. The Tigernicks service costs €30, which is less than any mistake.

Fit Hall effect sticks if…
You have stick drift right now · You play more than 10 hours a week · You play competitively · You’ve replaced sticks before and the drift came back · You want a permanent fix
Hold off if…
Your controller is still under Sony’s official warranty (less than 1 year old) · You’d rather DIY and have soldering experience · You play very casually, less than 5 hours a week
Frequently asked questions
Does the €30 cover both sticks or just one?
The €30 covers installation of both Hall effect sticks, left and right. We always replace both because the second one usually wears out soon after the first. The price also includes technical calibration, in-game testing and the 3-month warranty.
Do Hall effect sticks really get rid of stick drift for good?
Yes. Stick drift is caused by mechanical wear in the original potentiometer. Hall effect and TMR sticks have no physical contact: they detect position using a magnetic field. No friction, no wear, no drift. Their lifespan is 5 to 50 million cycles, compared with 500,000-2 million for the original stick.
Can I send you my controller if I’m not in Madrid?
Yes, we work with customers across the EU. Message us on WhatsApp (+34 644 136 586) and we’ll guide you through packing it so it arrives safely. We repair it and send it back with the warranty included.
How long does the installation take?
The full process (disassembly, desoldering, installation, calibration and testing) takes between 2 and 3 hours. If you’re in Madrid, you can drop it off and collect it the same day. If you post it to us, the total time depends on the fault and on delivery once we’ve received it.
Are they compatible with the DualSense Edge?
Yes, Hall effect modules are compatible with the DualSense Edge, although the installation needs some extra care because of its design. Check with us first if you have an Edge, as the price may vary slightly.
Can you feel the difference when playing?
Yes, especially in shooters and competitive games: cleaner aim, movement without over-correction and no drift at all. The most noticeable difference isn’t immediate. It comes after 6-12 months, when the original stick would have started to wear and the Hall effect stick performs just the same.
Does it affect Sony’s official warranty?
The installation involves opening and modifying the controller, which voids Sony’s official warranty. If your controller is under 1 year old and has stick drift, we recommend contacting Sony first. If the warranty has already expired, our service is the best option, and it comes with our own 3-month warranty.
What’s the difference between Hall effect and TMR?
Hall effect is the standard magnetic technology: it eliminates stick drift and has a lifespan of 5-50M cycles. TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistance) is the evolution: greater detection precision and lower battery consumption. Both eliminate stick drift permanently. At Tigernicks we install the latest generation available.

How we handle reviews
Reviews are written by Tigernicks customers. Those marked “verified owner” correspond to a purchase made on this website with the same email address; the rest come from earlier customers whom we cannot link to an order on the website.
After each delivery we ask buyers for their opinion. We do not pay or give anything in exchange for a review.
